The Bocca Pargulu at Bavella in Corsica
Starting point of the hike: Col de Bavella, Notre Dame des Neiges
To get there, take the direction of Zonza and in the centre of the village, take the road to the Col de Bavella. Park at the car park near the beautiful white statue of "Notre Dame des Neiges". The start of the hike is on the left of the statue, along the road, at the sign "refuge d'Asinau".
The Bocca Pargulu hiking trail
It is in the heart of the Aiguilles de Bavella, through a forest of Laricci pines and rough maquis, that you will set off to climb "A Bocca di u Truvone" (1334 M) & "A Bocca Pargulu" (1662 M). The Alpine Way, a sporty and difficult hike, with landscapes that leave you perplexed! The path starts quietly in the Laricci pine forest, then, at the sign "Voie Alpine", starts a constant and rather difficult ascent, on a stony path. Follow the yellow markings and the cairns until you reach "A Bocca di u Truvone" which culminates at 1334 M.
La Bocca Pargulu by the alpine variant of the GR20 Corsica
Then the path branches off to the left, first downhill, before heading upwards again to a fairly technical passage with a chain (slippery in wet weather). An impressive panorama with a green forest enclosed in the valley and surrounded by steep peaks that rise proudly towards the clouds. This is the heart of the Aiguilles de Bavella, with a landscape that leaves you dreaming. Continue the ascent over a section of scree to reach a beautiful stone arch with a view of the needles of "A Bocca Pargulu", the highest point at 1662 M. All that remains is to reach "A Bocca Pargulu", for a well-deserved break.
The alternative return routes and tips!
From there, you have 3 possibilities:
- join the GR20 loop (specific red & white markings), which allows a return to the Bavella pass. a rather long, monotonous path, without particular views and through the forest.
- join the GR20 and go through the Asinau refuge to reach the Monte Incudine which culminates at 2136 M (very difficult part)
- return to your steps. This is certainly the best alternative if you prefer the view from above.
