Start or finish the GR20 in Corsica
Whichever direction you choose, you'll need to book your own transport to get back home once you've finished...because the GR20 trail is not a loop! The 2 main departure points for the GR20 are Calenzana (Haute Corse - GR20 North/South) and Conca (Corse Du Sud - GR20 South/North). However, it's also possible to do a 1/2 GR20 at a half-way point with the Col de Vizzavona. For some hikers who wish to do only part of the GR20 route, a departure from the Vergio resort, the Col de Verde, the Col de Bavella, the Asco Stagnu refuge, or Ghisoni Capanelle is often preferred.
The nearest access points are Vizzavona, Vergio, Verde and Ghisoni. The furthest points are Asco, Calenzana and Conca. Shuttle service available to all GR20 routes. Train service available to Vizzavona and Calvi. Bus to Porto Vecchio.
The main routes from Bastia are Calenzana, Conca, Asco or Vizzavona. Gr20 shuttle service available from Bastia Poretta airport, the port and Bastia town center. Alternatively, you can take the train from Bastia or Casamozza station to Vizzavona and Calvi. Once in Calvi, you'll need to take a cab from Calvi to Calenzana (depending on the timetable, you may lose a day).
No GR20 shuttle service. Bookings can only be made with Calvi or Calenzana cabs for a fare of around €30-50. Calvi is a 15-minute drive from Calenzana. Many hikers try the Stop or walk. Good luck to those who choose the latter two options.
Figari Sud Corse airport is just 45 minutes from Conca (GR20 Sud). This is a popular service for many hikers starting or finishing in Conca. GR20 service available
GR20 shuttle bus available from Ajaccio or Bastia. The classic Gr20 route from north to south. Access to the trail on the right of the church square. Choosing this itinerary allows you to start with the greatest difficulties. Steep gradients, little shade, rocky, mountainous terrain with scree and steep, fairly difficult paths.
Worth knowing: Late May to early June, significant risk of snow or residual snow on the summit of Monte Cinto.
Shuttle service available from Ajaccio, Bastia and Figari! Starting out in Conca allows you to discover the Gr20 South and test your physical and mental capacities on terrain that is less difficult and more undulating than the GR20 North. Many hikers choose the Conca Vizzavona route (1/2 GR20). The nearest airport is Figari Sud Corse, and the port is Porto Vecchio. Shuttle service available from Ajaccio, Bastia and Figari. Vizzavone is a half-way stopover village with gîtes & hotels, a refuge and a railway station. It's a departure or arrival point for those doing half of the GR20 (GR20 South or GR20 North). You can start at the Col de Vizzavona or near the railway station.
Whether you don't have enough time to do the whole GR20, or only half of it, or only part of it... These four refuges (stages) are accessible by road. GR20 shuttle service available from Ajaccio, Bastia and Figari.
You don't have time to complete the last two stages (Paliri & Conca)? An injury forces you to stop at Bavella in the commune of Zonza? Weather conditions on the Coscione plateau or at the Asinao refuge are unstable, or even dangerous for finishing the GR20? GR0 shuttle transfer available to Ajaccio, Bastia, Figari or Porto Vecchio.
Are you arriving by car at one of Corsica's ports to join the GR20? Is your vehicle parked in a parking lot near Conca, Calenzana or Vizzavona, and would you like to be picked up at the end of the GR20? GR20 shuttle available on request.
Many hikers on the GR20 Sud choose to drop off their car in Conca before being picked up for the journey to Vizzavona. In this way, they can return to their vehicle at the end of the route and enjoy a longer stay on the island, relaxing after the effort.
The Basseta sheepfold is ideally situated on the heights of Zicavo in southern Corsica. Reaching Vizzavona from Basseta is a difficult but possible GR20 service. However, an approach charge is automatically applied, as there are no drivers in the immediate vicinity of these two out-of-the-way locations.

The question of transport to the GR20 in Corsica deserves careful consideration! Depending on the time of year, the day or the pick-up time...the availability of a service can be compromised! Some means of transport, such as trains or buses, are not in service! It may be impossible to make a low-cost connection! Fortunately, the GR20 shuttle solution is a good alternative for a 24/7 transfer!
